PURPOSE:

Staff seeks to enter into an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for design services associated with construction of a new parking structure located on North Eugene Street (Eugene Street Parking Deck).  A resolution needs to be approved by City Council authorizing the City Manager to enter into this agreement.

 

BACKGROUND:

Due to recent and projected development around First National Bank Field, the City of Greensboro has identified a need to provide up to 940 additional parking spaces in the “Bellemeade District” of Downtown Greensboro. The City is in the process of purchasing property located at 201 North Eugene Street for a new parking structure (Eugene Street Parking Deck) which would accommodate up to 940 new parking spaces. The City proposes to utilize the on-call Engineering Consultant contract with Kimley-Horn and Associates for design services for this project with direction to Kimley-Horn to sub-contract up to 15% of the design services to one or more MWBE Design Firms.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

Funding up to $1,500,000 for this agreement is budgeted in Parking Facilities Bond Fund account 546-4520-01.5410.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Transportation Department recommends and requests approval of the attached resolution authorizing the City Manager to enter into an agreement with Kimley-Horn and Associates, Inc. for a design services associated with construction of the Eugene Street Parking Deck.
