BACKGROUND:

Since 1985, the National Recreation and Park Association has celebrated the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month. For 85 years, the Greensboro Parks and Recreation Department has been serving the city through providing desirable and diverse parks, facilities, and programs. During this time, the Department’s team of professionals have developed trust and relationships with the community while being innovative and efficient toward exceeding community recreational and cultural needs.

Through the support of the City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, community partners and dedicated professionals, Greensboro Parks and Recreation provides progressive leadership, and develops and maintains strong partnerships with public and private organizations to literally and figuratively change the landscape of Greensboro. The department is nationally accredited by the Commission for Accreditation of Park and Recreation agencies and has been recognized nationally for best practice in terms of business operations and programming.

To celebrate Parks and Recreation Month, the department has planned many activities to showcase the depth and breadth of opportunities available, culminating in the second annual “P&R Fest” scheduled for Sunday, July 29 from 4-8 pm at Gillespie Golf Course.
