PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2017-006, Downtown Greenway Phase 3C, have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Yates Construction Company in the amount of $1,164,881.76.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of all labor, equipment, and materials required for installation of 932 SY of 12’-wide greenway trail, closure of access from N. Cedar Street onto W. Spring Street, construction of 288 LF of Soldier Pile Retaining Wall, and installation of 504 LF of 8” waterline; along with ADA compliant concrete curb cuts.
The bids were opened on June 14, 2018 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Yates Construction Company (Stokesdale, NC) with a bid of $1,164,881.76.
The MWBE goals were MBE 6% and WBE 7%.
The contractor’s commitment is MBE 6.1% and WBE 7.7%.

The proposed date for start of construction is August 20, 2018. The proposed date of completion is February 16, 2019.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended by the Departments of Engineering & Inspections and GDOT that City Council approve the bid and award Contract 2017-006, Downtown Greenway Phase 3C, to Yates Construction Company for the bid amount of $1,164,881.76.
