PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2017-043, the Airport Lift Station and Sewer Line project, have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Yates Construction Company in the amount of $4,983,020.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of all labor, equipment, and materials required for: abandonment of existing Lift Station and installation of approximately 7,502 linear feet of 16-inch gravity sewer line, 789 linear feet of 8-inch ductile iron pipe sewer line, and 23 manholes.
The bids were opened on May 24, 2018 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Yates Construction Company (Stokesdale, NC) with a bid of $4,983,020.
The MWBE goals were MBE 3% and WBE 4%. The contractor’s commitment is MBE 0.9% and WBE 1.7%.
No other bids were approved through the Good Faith Effort (GFE) review process.
The proposed date for start of construction is July 23, 2018. The proposed date of completion is May 19, 2019.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funds for this construction contract are budgeted in the following Water Resources Capital Improvement Fund account 503-7027-05.6019 in the amount of $4,983,020. A budget adjustment is needed to use this account.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended by the Departments of Engineering & Inspections and Water Resources that City Council approve the bid and award Contract 2017-043, Airport Lift Station and Sewer Line project, to Yates Construction Company for the bid amount of $4,983,020 and the associated budget adjustment.
