PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested to accept the donation of 4230 Near Camp Burton Rd., Parcel #0217968, for the future expansion of Keeley Park.

BACKGROUND:
Michael A. Fowler approached the City regarding the donation of 4230 Near Camp Burton Rd. for the use of expansion of Keeley Park. The parcel is 7.58 acres and offers several potential development opportunities for Keeley Park.

In 2006, the Keeley Park Master Plan was developed to provide recommendations for the development of the City's former nursery site to meet the recreational needs of residents. The initial phase of development, which included the construction of a community garden, fishing ponds, trails, a sprayground, playground, and maintenance facility, was completed in 2011.

In an effort to ensure that the City and Department adequately meet the recreational needs of its current and future residents, Parks and Recreation Staff, in conjunction with Stewart, Inc., completed an update to the master plan in January 2016 and the plan was approved by City Council in March 2016.

Amenities recommended by the updated plan include but are not limited to additional shelters, restrooms, walking trails and parking, outdoor fitness equipment, a dog park, an outdoor classroom, disc golf, mountain bike trails, corn hole courts and renovations to the sprayground, playground and community garden. The second phase of development of Keeley Park is anticipated to begin Fall 2018 and will incorporate features of the updated master plena.
