PURPOSE:

To appropriate funds to ensure that the Network Services Fund has sufficient appropriations for information technology needs and associated costs remaining to be paid in the current fiscal year.

BACKGROUND:

The Information Technology Department manages the technology needs and certain telecommunications equipment and applications for the City organization through a centralized Network Services Internal Service Fund.  User departments are charged an “internal” fee to access network and other hardware/ software applications and for helpdesk troubleshooting solutions, among other services provided by the Information Technology Department. The internal payments are included in the departments’ annual budget appropriation.  Certain necessary technology and related payments will be higher than originally planned at the time of annual budgeting last year; therefore, a budget ordinance is requested to appropriate additional fund balance to allow continued technology operations in FY 2018.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The increased expense appropriations will be funded through anticipated additional appropriated revenue.
