PURPOSE:
This resolution supports the Piedmont Legacy Trails initiative to brand and coordinate planning of trails and greeways throughout the 12-county region (Alamance, Caswell, Davidson, Davie, Forsyth, Guilford, Montgomery, Randolph, Rockingham, Stokes, Surry and Yadkin)
BACKGROUND:
Piedmont Legacy Trails is an initiative of the Piedmont Land Conversancy and Piedmont Triad Regional Council to develop a brand and coordination of planning of trails and greenway within a 12-county region.
Piedmont Legacy Trails is working to brand the region as a trails destination through a variety of efforts. These include: online marketing and social media, public education, annual Trails Summits, regional interactive trail finding map, sponsorship of National Trails Day events, assistance to communities and counties to leverage resources and branding certain regional trails as "Piedmont Legacy Trails."
To date the following entities have adopted the Resolution of Support: Randolph County, Yadkin County, Montgomery County, Surry County, Rockingham County, Rockingham County Be Healthy Initiative, Northwest Piedmont Rural Planning Organization, Piedmont Triad Regional Planning Organization, Greensboro Municipal Planning Organization, Summerfield Town Council.
The Greensboro Parks and Recreation Commission approved the Resolution of Support for Piedmont Legacy Trails to advance to City Council at its February 14, 2018 meeting. The Parks and Recreation Commission at the City of High Point and Guilford County have adopted the resolution and pending approvals by their Council and Commission.
