PURPOSE:
STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates, Inc. is needed to provide additional engineering services for the federally funded Ballinger Road Bridge #98 Replacement Project, B-5553. City Council approval of a contract extension to the professional services contract in the amount of $29,965.00 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro desires to replace Bridge #400098 located on Ballinger Road over a tributary of Horse Pen Creek. The purpose and need of the project is to replace the existing structurally deficient bridge, with a Sufficiency Rating of 10.62 given on 4-28-14, with a bridge that meets current design standards. It is expected that the proposed bridge will accommodate a 40 foot wide roadway with curb and gutter and six-foot sidewalks on each side.

STV/Ralph Whitehead Associates, Inc. was awarded the design contract for the bridge replacement by the City Council on December 16, 2016, in the amount of $454,605.69. This extension to the contract for design services, in the amount of $29,965.00, will bring the total of the contract to $484,570.69.

The Water Resources Department, with the approval of the NCDOT, has identified the need to add several items to the contract: design of the water line and sewer line relocations in the vicinity of the bridge. The relocations are required due to conflicts between the existing utilities and the proposed bridge and storm sewer systems. Federal funds are reimbursing 80% of the cost, so the City's matching amount for the extension will be $5,993.00.

BUDGET IMPACT:
The design contract extension in the amount...
