PURPOSE:
Fleming Engineering, Inc. is needed to provide additional engineering services for the federally funded Aycock Street at Walker Avenue Intersection Improvement project, U-5532A. City Council approval of a contract extension to the professional services contract in the amount of $43,165.67 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
The intersection improvement consists of removing and replacing four (4) existing concrete curb cuts along with cross walk locations, lane closure, and extension of concrete median at intersection of Wright Street and Aycock Street.

Fleming Engineering, Inc. was awarded the design contract for the intersection improvement by the City Council on June 3/16/15, in the amount of $62,326.58. Two other extensions to the contract for design services were authorized on 11/17/15, in the amount of $77,743.21, and on 5/25/17, in the amount of $158,658.07, for a total of $236,401.28.

The Transportation Department, with the approval of the NCDOT, has identified the need to add several items to the contract: design of an overhead pedestrian crossing signal on Aycock Street to include push button activation at sidewalks and median and design of signals for the Aycock Street and Walker Avenue intersection. The cost to incorporate the additional engineering is $43,165.67. With this contract extension, the new total amount of the contract will be $341,893.53. Federal funds are reimbursing 80% of the cost, so the City's matching amount for the extension will be $8,633.13.

BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding for the design contract extension in the amount of $43,165.67 is...
