PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2017-052, Stormwater Improvements, have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Yates Construction Company in the amount of $874,896.75.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of all labor, equipment, and materials required for multiple types of stormwater system maintenance and construction. There are two projects of the new storm system construction, three projects of corrugate metal (CM) pipe joint and pipe wall repair, one project involving the construction of a new concrete endwall, and one project constructing a new channel erosion control retaining wall.
The bids were opened on March 15, 2018 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Yates Construction Company (Stokesdale, NC) with a bid of $874,896.75.
The MWBE goals were MBE 3% and WBE 3%.
The contractor’s commitment is MBE 2.3% and WBE 1.2%.
No additional bids were received. The proposed date for start of construction is May 21, 2018. The proposed date of completion is December 7, 2018.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funds in the amount of $874,896.75 for this construction contract are budgeted in the Stormwater Capital Improvement Fund account 506-7017-01.6018 A18029. A budget adjustment is needed to use this account.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended by the Departments of Engineering & Inspections and Water Resources that City Council approve the bid and award Contract 2017-052, Stormwater Improvements, to Yates Construction Company for the bid amount of $874,896.75.
