PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro has received funds from the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) to support eligible expenses for the Federal Fiscal Year (FFY) 2017 FTA Section 5339 Bus and Bus Facilities Grant. A budget ordinance must be approved to allow the expenditure of funds.
BACKGROUND:
Section 5339 funds can be used to replace, rehabilitate, and purchase buses, vans, and related equipment and to construct bus-related facilities. The City of Greensboro will utilize the funding to purchase eight (8) paratransit vehicles as replacements for eight (8) paratransit vehicles that have met their useful life in miles. The new vehicles will be fully equipped with ADA compliant equipment.
At their August 16, 2017 meeting, the Greensboro Urban Area MPO Technical Advisory Committee approved the project.
BUDGET IMPACT:
The City has been awarded federal funds in the amount of $465,522. The City will be required to provide local matching funds in the amount of $82,151. These funds will come from Transportation Bond account 481-4531-01.6567. The total project funding is as follows:
$465,522 Federal (85%)
$ 82,151 Local (15%)
$547,673
A budget adjustment will be required to move funds to the appropriate account.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Department of Transportation recommends and requests that the City Council approve the attached budget ordinance establishing $547,673 for the FY2017 FTA Section 5339 Bus and Bus Facilities Grant.
