PURPOSE:
A budget ordinance needs to be approved in order to add additional Federal and State funds to cover costs associated with Battleground-New Garden Intersection Improvements Project U-5306C.
BACKGROUND:
The Battleground-New Garden Intersection Improvements Project (U-5306C) was identified as an MPO priority project and selected for full funding by NCDOT under the Prioritization 1.0 process. NCDOT has made an 80% federal and a 20% state funding commitment to the project.
U-5306C consists of adding left and right turn lanes, a median island to control access on New Garden Road, traffic signal modifications, and the construction of sidewalks. Project construction is underway with completion expected in 2018.
The City has requested and NCDOT agreed to provide additional funding for this project to cover all anticipated eligible expenses. The enclosed supplemental agreement adds this funding and extends the project completion date until December 31, 2018.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Additional funding will be added to the project as follows:
$288,000 (80%) Federal Grant
$72,000 (20%) State Grant
$360,000
No additional City funds are required.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Transportation Department recommends and requests approval of the attached budget ordinance adding funds for the Battleground-New Garden Intersection Improvements Project U-5306C.
