PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested for a change order to Contract 2017-001 for the Resurfacing of Streets. In order to complete, the work required under the contract, approval is required for this change order, with Blythe Construction, Inc. for $120,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of all labor, equipment, and incidentals required for both demolition and resurfacing of various streets. The bids were opened on February 16, 2017 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Blythe Construction, Inc. (Charlotte, NC) with a bid of $6,485,693.98.
The contractor’s commitment for the entire contract, and change order, is MBE=6.0% and WBE=10.0%.
This work consists of addition of two concrete islands, four curb cuts, paving demo with Fiber Reinforced Asphalt mix, and several line items had overruns due to underestimated quantities.
The original contract amount is $6,485,693.98 and approval of this change order request in the amount of $120,000.00 will make the new contract value $6,605,693.98.

Street Projects FY 2018 402-4308-01.5611 $120,000.00
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Departments of Engineering & Inspections and Field Operations recommend that City Council approve this change order for $120,000 on contract 2017-001 to Blythe Construction, Inc.
