PURPOSE:

The Property Management Section of the Engineering and Inspections Department is in the process of selling surplus land consisting of a portion of a non-buildable industrial lot located at 1209 Boston Rd., parcel #0048795. City Council approval is requested to proceed with the sale of the property to the highest bidder.

BACKGROUND:

The portion of property to be sold is a leftover remnant of right-of-way from the Norwalk Street Road Widening Project. An offer in the amount of $1,200 was accepted from Matthew F. and Laura D. O’Connell. They are the only adjoining property owners. The sale is in accordance with Section 4:124 of the City Code of Ordinances, “Sale or Exchange of Excess Property”.

The property was acquired in 2002 by a warranty deed for the road widening project. It has been determined that there is no municipal need for the property. The total area of the portion of property to be sold is 3,731 Sq. Ft. (0.08 acre). The property is zoned LI, Light Industrial.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The proceeds from the sale of this property will be credited to the Greensboro Department of Transportation Revenue Account #101-4501-01.8616. Once all costs related to advertising, property transfer fees, and maintenance are paid, any net remaining amount will be recorded as revenue from the sale of the property.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Property Management Section of the Engineering and Inspections Department recommends that City Council approve and authorize this sale of a portion of surplus property located at 1209 Boston Road.
