PURPOSE:
Consider Ordinance amending the Land Development Ordinance to reflect changing the Charles B. Aycock Historic District to the Dunleath Historic District.

BACKGROUND:
In March, the Charles B. Aycock Neighborhood Association voted to rename their neighborhood in response to the renaming of the Charles B. Aycock Middle School. The neighborhood selected the name Dunleath, which refers to the grand villa of North Carolina Judge Robert P. Dick that was constructed in 1856 on land that is now part of the neighborhood. The neighborhood association has requested the Local Historic District name be changed to reflect this change.

The Land Development Ordinance, Chapter 30 of the Code of Ordinances includes two references to the historic district. The attached Ordinance reflects the proposed amendments.

On May 24, the Historic Preservation Commission reviewed and recommended approval of the historic district name change, the Land Development Ordinance and revisions to the Historic District Design Guidelines. Meeting minutes are attached.

On June 21, the Planning Board conducted a public hearing to consider the required revisions to the Land Development Ordinance and reviewed the amended references in the Historic District Design Guidelines. The Planning Board recommended the amended references in the Historic District Guidelines. Following the hearing, the Board recommended approval of the ordinance. Meeting minutes are also attached.

BUDGET IMPACT:
None.
