PURPOSE:
This request is pursuant to policy requiring City Council approval of all contracts exceeding $100,000. This contract enables the Greensboro Fire Department (GFD) to maintain an established medical evaluation program. The program consists of providing annual medical evaluations directed to the occupational health, duty status, fitness and well-being of firefighters.

BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro has contracted with the Moses H. Cone Memorial Hospital Operating Corporation (MCMHOC) to provide and meet the recommended standards for the annual medical evaluations for firefighters for over ten (10) years. All services of the evaluation are under the direction of the Moses Cone Occupational Health Manager and Medical Director, along with Occupational Health Physicians and trained certified staff to draw blood for labs. MCMHOC has made a difference in the lives of numerous firefighters, through the early diagnosis of existing and/or potential health issues.

BUDGET IMPACT:
The total contract with MCMHOC for FY 17-18 is $115,846.50. The majority of funds within this contract ($100,846.50) are to provide medical evaluations for firefighters who are not on the Hazardous Materials Response Team. Funding is within the approved FY 17-18 annual operating budget under the account name Contracted Medical, #101-4005-02.5428. The remaining portion of this contract ($15,000) provides higher level medical evaluations for firefighters assigned to the Hazardous Materials Team. This amount is covered by State Grant funds under the account name Contracted Medical, #220-4015-01.5428.
