PURPOSE: To enter into an agreement to provide funding to the Natural Science Center of Greensboro, Inc. in an amount up to $615,000 exclusively for design work of the first phase of development of Battleground Parks District and parking lot improvements.

BACKGROUND:
On November 8, 2016 City of Greensboro voters approved a Parks and Recreation bond referendum in the amount of $34,500,000 and of that $5,000,000 was allocated for the initial development of the Battleground Parks District (BPD).

The Natural Science Center of Greensboro, Inc. ("NSC") is requesting $615,000 of the BPD allocation. The contribution will be for approximately $200,000 toward design of first phase of development of BPD and approximately $415,000 for parking lot improvements. With oversight and support from the City, NSC will be responsible for obtaining bids for construction and entering into contracts for the construction of the desired improvements. NSC must also abide by all local, State and federal laws, including Minority/Women's Business Enterprises requirements, and comply with anti-discrimination laws on the basis of gender, race, color, religion, national origin, age, and disability. All plans, bids, and construction are subject to the approval of the City.

With approval of this agenda item and contract, the City will reimburse NSC for approved expenses for the actual design, site preparation, utilities, paving, permits and fee, and project administration in an amount not to exceed $615,000.
