PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested to accept the donation of three parcels for the development of the Brightwood Neighborhood Park. The parcels are identified as 4504 Summit Ave. (Parcel #0047126), 4506 Summit Ave. (Parcel #0047125), and 4509 Summit Ave. (Parcel #0047553).

The Michael W. Haley Foundation Inc. has leased the three parcels to Cove Creek Gardens since 2005 for use as a car park area and garden access. In 2006, the City Council approved the purchase of 4698 Fewell Rd. for the development of a passive tree preserve with walking trails and a small naturalistic play area for children. The 2006 bond packet included funds for the development of the Brightwood Neighborhood Park. In January 2016, a Community Conversation was held by the Parks and Recreation Department regarding the development of the park, which included a presentation to community residents on the intended improvements. Storm damage removal began in February 2016 and has been completed. The donation of the three parcels by the Michael Haley Foundation, Inc. will allow improvements to be made on the Summit Ave. side of the park for pedestrian improvements and trail access.

BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding in the amount of $26.00 for the Guilford County Register of Deeds recording fee is budgeted in the Parks and Recreation Department Account #101-5029-01.5288.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Parks and Recreation Department request and recommends City Council approval of the attached resolution that accepts the donation from the Michael W. Haley Foundation,...
