PURPOSE:
A resolution needs to be approved to amend the professional services design contract, 2015-0180, with Fleming Engineering to approve additional work and additional funding.

BACKGROUND:
The original Aycock and Walker Intersection Improvement project included a median in Aycock Street that was found not to be feasible. It was also determined that the existing sidewalk along the western side of Aycock Street from Wright Avenue to south of Spring Garden Street is not ADA compliant.

The project scope has been revised to include reducing the northbound roadway cross section of Aycock Street north from Walker Avenue for approximately 450 feet; reconstruction of the sidewalk along the east side of Aycock Street from Walker Avenue to south of Spring Garden Street to include landscaping, handrails, retaining walls; the installation of crosswalk with refuge islands and warning indicators between Cobb Street and Morton Street; the reconstruction of the sidewalk along the west side of Aycock Street from Wright Avenue to south of Spring Garden Street; milling and repaving of Cobb Street from Aycock Street to existing curb inlets; the milling and repaving of Morton Street from Aycock Street in order to flow storm water to Mayflower Drive; and the reconstruction of wheelchair curb ramps, signals, markings, and lighting along the project as required. The professional services contract for design must be amended to allow for these changes.

BUDGET IMPACT:
