PURPOSE:

The Police Department and City Engineering & Inspections Department are requesting a change order to contract 2016-031 related to the Police Headquarters renovation project. The changes involve repairing the existing window mullions, fire alarms & associated electrical work to tie the renovated floors into the existing building alarm system, and delays related to design changes to address egress code changes on the third floor. The change order is $31,779 and it is expected to be the last for the project. 30% ($9,618) of the change order for window mullion repair will completed by an MWBE firm and increases the total MWBE participation in the contract. In order to complete these processes, approval of a contract change order is requested.

 

BACKGROUND:

The City authorized professional services contract 2016-031 with Bar Construction Company, Inc in the amount of $1,185,500 to renovate the fifth and remaining unfinished portion of the third floor at the Police Headquarters building. The renovated building will allow the Office of the Chief of Police and other police administrative offices to move from the Melvin Municipal Office Building to the Police Headquarters upon completion.

Funding for this contract is available in account #411-3514-01.6013.

The Police Department requests City Council approval a change order in the amount of $31,779 to contract 2016-031 with Bar Construction Company, Inc for the Police Headquarters Renovation project.
