PURPOSE:

Bids have been received for the Lees Chapel Road Water Tank Rehabilitation - Contract 2017-015.  City Council approval of an award to Municipal Tank Coating and Sandblasting, Inc. in the amount of $387,635.00 is requested.

BACKGROUND:

This contract consists of surface preparation and coating the tank’s exterior and interior wet and dry surfaces.  The existing tank was tested for lead and it was found to be below the action level which would require removing.  The bids were opened on 4/24/17 and the apparent lowest, responsive bidder was Municipal Tank Coating and Sandblasting, Inc. (Hamlet, NC) with a bid of $387,635.00.

Three qualified contractors must be identified to establish a goal for MWBE participation, and no MWBE contractors could be found in the ten county area to work on elevated tanks. No participation is proposed for this contract.

Other bids received were:

D & M Painting                     $434,520.00                     Washington, PA

The anticipated date for start of construction is June 19, 2017 with anticipated completion by September 27, 2017.
