PURPOSE:
Bids have been received for the Brown Recreation Center and Hemphill Branch Library Improvements - Contract 2016-023. City Council approval of an award to Bar Construction Company, Inc. in the amount of $648,800.00 is requested.
BACKGROUND:
This contract consists of site prep activities to provide for parking lot improvements: clearing, select demolition, and debris removal; furnishing and installing bio-retention cells; demolition and removal of existing pavement; furnishing and installing porous asphalt, pervious concrete, and designated subgrade material; furnishing and installing a 2500 gallon and 5000 gallon HDPE tank, PVC piping, and appurtenances. The bids were opened on 4/20/17 and the apparent lowest, responsive bidder was Bar Construction Company, Inc. (Greensboro, NC) with a bid of $648,800.00.
The MWBE goals were MBE=6% and WBE=6%.
The contractor met the goals at: MBE=6.1% and WBE=18.7%.
No other bids were received.
The anticipated date for start of construction is June 16, 2017 with anticipated completion by October 16, 2017.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding is budgeted in the following Water Resources Stormwater Capital Fund Account: 506-7016-04.6018 Activity A17049.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Engineering & Inspections and Water Resources Departments recommend approval and award of the Brown Recreation Center and Hemphill Branch Library Improvements - Contract 2016-023 to Bar Construction Company, Inc. for the bid amount of $648,800.00.
