PURPOSE:
Michael Baker Engineering, Inc. was selected to provide construction inspection the Market Street and Guilford College Road Improvements Project. City Council approval of the professional services contract with Michael Baker Engineering, Inc. in the amount of $602,553.60 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
This project includes installation of intersection improvements: roadway widening, asphalt overlay, concrete sidewalks, driveways, curb cuts, median islands, retaining walls, and associated erosion control items.

Our six on-call Consultant Engineering Inspections (CEI) professional services firms were considered for this project. Prime consideration was given to their past experience and performance with projects involving streetscape work, sidewalks, roadway configuration, traffic analysis, landscaping, utility design, and public participation. As a result of the analysis by the Transportation and Engineering & Inspections Departments, Michael Baker Engineering, Inc. was selected for the project.

The roadway work is to begin by June 2017 and is to be completed by July 2018.

BUDGET IMPACT:
Funds for the professional services contract are available in accounts:

Street Construction and Paving: 401-4547-01.6014 A16102 $402,553.60
Sidewalk Construction: 401-4547-01.6015 A16103 $200,000.00
