PURPOSE:
City Council is requested to approve a contract with AAR Roofing to replace the roof for Greensboro Coliseum Special Events Center. The existing roof was installed in 1991 with a 25 year rubber membrane. This old roof will be replaced with a new 25 year rubber membrane roofing system. The contract with AAR Roofing will be in the amount of $2,204,999.
BACKGROUND:
At the April 5, 2016 City Council Meeting, City Council approved a $20,000,000 bond package that will be paid back with future hotel / motel tax revenues. These funds are to be used for Coliseum roof replacements for both the main Coliseum arena and Special Events Center, along with other Coliseum improvements, i.e. Fieldhouse building, new pool at the GAC, etc.
The Coliseum received three bids to replace the roof of the Special Events Center on Wednesday, April 11th, 2017. AAR Roofing submitted the lowest responsible base bid in the amount of $2,204,999. The total contract will be in the amount of $2,204,999 and the project duration is approximately 180 days.
The Goal Setting Committee determined that due to a lack of M/WBE availability in commercial roofing, no M/WBE goals should be set for this project. The selected vendor, however, has committed 5% of the contract to available MBE-certified firms.
