PURPOSE:
City Council is being requested to approve the bid received for the construction of Fire Station No. 63 and award the contract to S & S Building and Development.

BACKGROUND:
Fire Station 63 is a new station to be located at 4306 Burlington Road. This fire station will allow the department to serve approximately 4,231 citizens in accordance with established performance standards. The new Station is will be approximately 12,800 square feet with EMS and storage garage facility on site. The area identified for this project currently has a tax valuation in excess of $154,631,000.

The Facilities Construction division along with the Greensboro Fire Department has worked with TMA Architects to develop a design for the new station that will meet the needs of the Fire Department and the surrounding community. Bids for the project were received on September 29, 2016. The following is a tabulation of the bids received:

The apparent low bidder was S&S Building and Development with a total bid in the amount of $4,596,000.00. The MWBE utilization goal was 10% MBE and 10% WBE. The contractor's commitment is 1.4% MBE and 2.7% WBE. A good faith investigation and review has been conducted, and it has been determined that the contractor made good faith efforts to comply with the City's MWBE policy (see Attachment B)...
