PURPOSE:

The Water Resources Department is requesting approval of a contract change order to Contract 2014-5266 with NCDOT for additional expenses associated with the relocation and adjustment of waterline betterment along Project P-5204. In order to compensate NCDOT for the additional construction work, approval for a contract change order is requested.

 

BACKGROUND:

City Council authorized contract 2014-5266 in the amount of $416,000 on June 3, 2014 with NCDOT for the adjustment and relocation of waterline betterment associated with Project P-5204 along McLeansville Road.  The original agreement was approved for utility work to be performed by a NCDOT contractor with full reimbursement based on NCDOT’s engineers cost estimate. The project consisted of the McLeansville Road grade separation over the NS/NCRR Railroad from Birch Creek Rd (SR 2826) to north of SR 2746. The change order is necessary to pay for the difference between the engineers estimated utility work cost (basis for original reimbursement agreement) and the actual constructed cost.  The total cost of the project is $469,385.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

Funding is budgeted in Water Resources Capital Fund account 503-7026-01.6016 A 17033 in the amount of $53,385. 

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Water Resources Department recommends City Council approval Change Order No.1 with NCDOT for Water Line Betterments along McLeansville Road Project P-5204 Contract 2014-5266 for additional construction utility work.
