PURPOSE:

To upgrade the software of approximately 3,000 City of Greensboro staff from Microsoft Office 2007 to Microsoft Office 2016.

BACKGROUND:

The Network Services Division of the Information Technology Department is responsible for providing up-to-date software applications and support for over 3,000 City of Greensboro staff.

The last update to the City’s email and back-end office software happened nearly ten years ago with the installation of Microsoft Office 2007. This version of Microsoft Office will no longer be supported by the manufacturer in 2017.

Upgrades to the City’s email and office software are needed to maintain adequate technology for the day-to-day operations of the city organization.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The total amount of the software upgrade will be $761,247.  A budget ordinance was required to appropriate funds in the Network Services fund for this expense to the following account:

Network Services Fund FY16-17:  682-0720-02.5212

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

Consideration of approval for the purchase of Microsoft Office upgrades for the organization in an amount of $761,247.
