PURPOSE:

To transfer ownership of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) from City of Greensboro to Robeson County Government and Edgecombe County Government.

BACKGROUND:

During Hurricane Matthew flooding, PPE was lost or destroyed in Robeson County and Edgecombe County leaving firefighters without proper protective clothing.  PPE has a maximum useful life of ten years.  The Greensboro Fire Department has identified 15 sets of Turnout Gear, 20 firefighting hoods, and 5 pairs of firefighting boots that are very near the end of its expiration date but could be used by other local government for a few months until they are able to purchase replacement gear.

BUDGET IMPACT:

There is no budget impact.  The PPE was turned in by retiring personnel and only has a few months life before expiration.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

The Fire Department recommends approval for the transfer of ownership of the PPE.
