PURPOSE:

To establish a budget for the purchase of an emergency power generator.

BACKGROUND:

The primary evacuation shelter for the City of Greensboro is Glenwood Recreation Center located at 2010 Coliseum Blvd. and the facility has no emergency back-up power source.  Following the March 2014 ice storm, FEMA and the State of North Carolina provided access to Hazard Mitigation funds for certain projects.  The Glenwood emergency power generator was selected as a hazard mitigation project that would be fully funded - 75% Federal share and a 25% State share. This emergency power will provide uninterrupted electrical service to the facility in the event of a power failure.

BUDGET IMPACT:

None.  This is Federal and State Hazard Mitigation funds.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended and requested that the City Council approve the budget ordinance for the emergency power generator
