PURPOSE:
STV/Ralph Whitehead & Associates, Inc. was selected to provide design services for the Ballinger Road Bridge #400098 Replacement Design (TIP #: 5553) Project in the amount of $454,605.69.
BACKGROUND:
The City of Greensboro desires to replace Bridge #400098 located on Ballinger Road over a tributary of Horse Pen Creek. The purpose and need of the project is to replace the existing structurally deficient bridge, with a Sufficiency Rating of 10.62 given on 4-28-14, with a bridge that meets current design standards. It is expected that the proposed bridge will accommodate a 40 foot wide roadway with curb and gutter and six-foot sidewalks on each side.
The project will be funded through the Municipal Bridge Replacement Program (80% Federal funding and 20% Municipal funding). The environmental document is expected to be a Programmatic Categorical Exclusion (PCE).
Our twelve on-call professional services firms were considered for this project. Prime consideration was given to their past experience and performance with projects involving streetscape work, sidewalks, roadway configuration, traffic analysis, landscaping, utility design, and public participation. As a result of the analysis by the Transportation and Engineering & Inspections Departments, Ralph Whitehead & Associates, Inc. was selected for the project.
The STV/Ralph Whitehead & Associates, Inc. team includes anticipated participation of Westcott, Small, & Associates (Greensboro, NC) for 1.7% WBE. Also, CH Engineering (Raleigh, NC) is to be used for 11.4% WBE.
