PURPOSE:

The City of Greensboro first entered into a contract with Taser International, Inc. for body worn cameras and their cloud platform for storing camera videos in 2013.  The police department wishes to continue the service and the licensing of their cloud storage, Evidence.com.  The new service contract is for a five year period with a total value of $1,914,171. The contract is presented to Greensboro City Council for sole source approval.

BACKGROUND:

Taser International, Inc. became the police department’s body worn camera and cloud provider in 2013 and the service was based upon a 3 year contract. While service contracts are not subject to a formal bidding process, the department has exhaustively researched and tested other body worn cameras and supporting cloud vendors to seek out the best cameras and cloud services while staying within the department’s fiscal abilities. Of the more than twelve vendors and products examined, Taser International’s cloud storage and equipment best fits the needs of the department. The service contract purchases the cloud storage, dashboard and camera docks, while providing cameras at no cost.

BUDGET IMPACT:

The contract will be funded with Federal Forfeiture funds and the Greensboro Police budget in the amount of $1,914,171 over a five year period and will be paid out of accounts 220-3571-01 and 101-3502-02.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is requested that the City Council pass the resolution allowing the City to enter into a contract with Taser International, Inc.
