PURPOSE:

Recognizing July is Parks and Recreation Month and the benefits our Parks and Recreation Department provides the community.

BACKGROUND:

Since 1985 the National Recreation and Parks Association has celebrated the month of July as Parks and Recreation Month. Celebrated nationally for 31 years, our Parks and Recreation Department has been serving Greensboro for 83 years strong. During this time, this team of professionals has developed trust and relationships with the community while being innovative and efficient toward exceeding community needs.

Through the support of the City Council, Parks and Recreation Commission, community partners and dedicated professionals, they provide progressive leadership, and develop strong partnerships with public and private organizations to literally and figuratively change the landscape of Greensboro. The department has been recognized nationally for best practice in terms of business operations and programming, and several of their team members are considered subject matter experts in the field, presenting at state and national conferences.
