PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Children's Museum (GCM) has requested assistance from the City in the form of a donated City of Greensboro police car to replace the existing police car which is dilapidated and no longer safe as a children's interactive exhibit. North Carolina General Statutes ? 160A-280 authorizes a city to donate personal property to a nonprofit organization following the governing board declaring the property to be donated as surplus and giving its approval for the donation. The GCM is a 501 (c) (3) nonprofit corporation and has confirmed that the police car will be used for the public purpose of creating an interactive exhibit for museum patrons. Furthermore, the GCM confirmed that the conveyance of this property is conditioned on the continued use for a public purpose and the conveyance includes reversion to the City of Greensboro in the event that the GCM ceases to use the property for a public purpose.
BACKGROUND:
The GCM is a hands-on, interactive museum for children, their families and teachers designed to inspire learning through play in a fun, energetic and safe environment for children up to 10 years of age. The GCM contacted the City of Greensboro for assistance by donating a police car for the purpose of replacing the current police car on exhibit which is in desperate need of repair and no longer safe for a children's exhibit.
