PURPOSE:
The City of Greensboro has entered into a mutual assistance agreement with the City of Cleveland to provide vitally needed temporary security and law enforcement services and equipment for the upcoming 2016 Republican National Convention to be held in Cleveland, Ohio the week of July 18, 2016. It is estimated that services and equipment provided will cost approximately $175,000. The City of Cleveland will reimburse the City of Greensboro for both personnel and equipment provided during the Convention. A budget ordinance is required to amend the General Fund in the estimated amount of $175,000 such that appropriate funding is available for expenditures pending reimbursement.

BACKGROUND:
On March 14, 2016, City Council adopted Resolution #068-16 which authorized the execution of a mutual assistance agreement between the City of Cleveland and the City of Greensboro to provide vitally needed temporary security and law enforcement services and equipment for the upcoming 2016 Republican National Convention to be held the week of July 18, 2016. This event is extremely important to the national political process, and due to the nature of the event, the US Secret Service designates it as a "National Security Special Event".
