PURPOSE:

To ensure that each of the 9 council members has an equal opportunity to make appointments to Greensboro’s various boards and commissions.

BACKGROUND:

To comport with Section 2-136 of Greensboro Code of Ordinances, City Council must ensure that each council member has an equitable number of appointments to Greensboro’s various boards and commissions.  The City Clerk will track all appointments by keeping a spreadsheet noting that each board has 9 possible appointment slots and by noting the rolling expiration dates of appointments in order to track which of the 9 council members is next in line to make the appointment.  Council members will consult the chart regularly and will work closely with each other to ensure the fair distribution of appointments.  The membership numbers of various boards will be re-aligned to comport with this new process.

BUDGET IMPACT:

None.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended that City Council pass this Resolution to Re-Organize the Appointment Procedure for Greensboro’s Boards and Commissions.
