PURPOSE:
HDR Engineering, Inc. was selected to provide planning and engineering services for the Summit Avenue and Yanceyville Street Streetscape Improvements in the amount of $1,206,400.

BACKGROUND:
The project entails providing streetscape enhancements and improvements: including storm drainage, landscaped median, possible bicycle lanes, and decorative street lighting. Gateway features are to be implemented for Summit Avenue, from the North Murrow Boulevard Interchange to Sullivan Street, and for Yanceyville Street, from Summit Avenue to East Lindsay Street. The project also entails upgrading the existing 6" water main to an 8" water main along Summit Avenue from North Murrow Boulevard Interchange to Bessemer Avenue. The scope of services includes conducting traffic analysis and alternatives analysis for two defined typical sections to determine a preferred alternative for detailed design.

Our twelve on-call professional services firms were considered for this project. Prime consideration was given to their past experience and performance with projects involving streetscape work, sidewalks, roadway configuration, traffic analysis, landscaping, utility design, and public participation. As a result of the analysis by the Transportation and Engineering & Inspections Departments, HDR Engineering, Inc. of the Carolinas was selected for the project.
