BACKGROUND:

The Sustainability Action Plan was accepted by City Council in January, 2011. The action plan identifies more than one hundred implementation items designed to advance Greensboro’s efforts toward effective energy management, efficient use of resources, and improved solid waste management.

The Action plan is organized around eight topic areas, including:

Transportation and land use

Nature in the city

Green jobs and buildings

Education and outreach

Recycling and waste reduction

Green technologies

City operations

Adaptation

A 2012 summary of implementation efforts identified 119 implementation items that had been initiated. A review of current progress indicates that 121 items have now been implemented, and that at least three items are now obsolete. The attached table provides an overview of implementation efforts.
