PURPOSE:
Through the Local Giving Program, Wal-Mart stores, Sam's Clubs and Logistics facilities can support the needs of their communities by providing grants to local organizations. The Wal-Mart Foundation has awarded the Greensboro Police Department (GPD) a grant of $1,500 for Police District 2's Community Outreach Program. A budget ordinance needs to be approved by City Council in order to accept these grant funds.

BACKGROUND:
The Greensboro Police Department's vision is to be a national model for exceptional policing through our commitment to excellence, selfless public service and effective community partnerships. Building on community partnerships, the goal of the funded program is to provide prevention-oriented strategies to promote positive youth development while building trust between police and youth in distressed neighborhoods.

Police District 2 will hold community events in their assigned neighborhoods, to include Jonesboro/Scott Park and Ole Asheboro. Programs will be held within these communities so that residents may attend and avoid transportation cost and also to reach the youth in the community where they live.

BUDGET IMPACT:
The Wal-Mart Foundation via the Local Giving Program has awarded a grant to the GPD's Police District 2 for Community Outreach under the Fiscal Year 2015 of $1,500. Funds will be used for program supplies, safety promotional items & giveaways, and refreshments for Community Outreach. The funds will be housed in account #220-3540-01.
