PURPOSE:

To make a technical correction to reference collection of motor vehicle taxes by the State of North Carolina under the Tag & Tax Together program administered by the Division of Motor Vehicles (DMV).

BACKGROUND:

The State of North Carolina administers a combined motor vehicle registration renewal and tax collection system through which the State collects DMV fees as well as local government motor vehicle taxes that were previously collected by Guilford County.   This item was referred to Council by the General Government Committee.

BUDGET IMPACT:

Revenue from the ad valorem property and license taxes on motor vehicles is included in the City’s annual budget.  This technical correction will have no change to the budget.

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

It is recommended that City Council amend Section 13-99 of the Greensboro Code of Ordinances as attached to reference the collection of Motor Vehicle Taxes by the State of North Carolina.
