PURPOSE:
In order to continue with ongoing water distribution system improvements and meet future pressure zone demands, the Water Resources Department is ready to proceed with design phase services for two new water booster stations. City Council approval of a design contract with Chester Engineers (North Carolina), Inc. in the amount of $344,000 is requested.

BACKGROUND:
This work consists of design and bid preparation services for the purpose of constructing two new water booster stations to enhance the City's water distribution system. The first booster station will be located at Groometown Road Tank located in the City's Main Pressure Zone in order to improve storage tank utilization, and the second booster station will be located in the vicinity of McCloud Road in order to replace the Regional Road booster station which, due to its location, cannot fully support the entire West Pressure Zone. The preliminary engineering report (PER) developed under a separate design contract will be used as the basis for the design of the new and replacement booster stations.

The professional engineering services of Chester Engineers (North Carolina), Inc., an MBE firm located in Greensboro, NC, is desired based on their experience in performing this type of design work on water distribution systems. This item was referred to Council by the General Government and Infrastructure Committees.

BUDGET IMPACT:
Funding is budgeted in Water Resources Capital Improvements Fund account 503-7025-07.5410 in the amount of $344,000. A budget adjustment is needed to use this account.
