PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2015-31 (2015 Bridge Structure Repair by Shotcrete) have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Proshot Concrete, Inc., for $581,000.00.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of completely removing deteriorated and disintegrated concrete from bridge superstructures (beams, girders, etc.) and substructures (abutments, bent caps, columns, etc.). It also includes cleaning reinforcing steel, removing all loose materials, and applying shotcrete by dry mix method. The bids were opened on September 17, 2015 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Proshot Concrete, Inc. (Florence, AL) with a bid of $581,000.00.
The M/WBE utilization goal was reviewed by the Goal Setting Committee and was MBE 0% and WBE 0%. This type of concrete repair using proprietary sprayed-on concrete techniques is provided by few companies, none of which are MWBEs or local to Greensboro or North Carolina. No subcontracting opportunities were identified, and these contracts normally are completely self-performed by the prime contractor. The contractor's commitment is MBE 0.0% and WBE 0.0%.
