PURPOSE:

Well-Spring Retirement Community, Inc has requested an encroachment agreement to use City right-of-way along and across 3611 Drawbridge Parkway. When public or private entities request to use City right-of-way, it is required that they secure approval by City Council.

 

BACKGROUND:

Well-Spring Retirement Community, Inc approached the City to install 1,919 feet of fiber optic lines in City right-of-way to provide fiber optic connectivity between the existing community at 4100 Well-Spring Drive and their new site at 3611 Drawbridge Parkway. This fiber optic will be used to control the fire alarm system as well as community gates.

 

This encroachment has been reviewed and approved by Engineering & Inspections, Transportation, Water Resources, and Legal.

 

BUDGET IMPACT:

Well-Spring Retirement Community, Inc will be charged annually at a rate of $0.30 per linear foot of fiber optic in the City’s rights-of-way per Chapter 28.1 Telecommunications of the Greensboro Code of Ordinances. The annual fee is $575.70 for 1,919 linear feet of fiber optic and will be deposited into account number 101-6010-01.7803.

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:

Engineering & Inspections recommends the approval of the encroachment which will allow Well-Spring Retirement Community, Inc to use City right-of-way.
