PURPOSE: To honor The Armed Forces Retiree’s Club (AFRC) scholarship recipient GYC Chairperson, Sarah Smith.

 

BACKGROUND: The Armed Forces Retiree’s Club (AFRC) has chosen to sponsor a scholarship to be presented to a senior member of the Greensboro Youth Council (GYC). The scholarship is open to those seniors that have:

 

                     Actively participated in GYC during the 2014-15 year. (Active participation is defined as having volunteered for at least one shift at a GYC project and attended at least two trainings during this time frame September 1, 2014-March 1, 2015.)

                     Be a member in good standing.

                     Set a positive example for other GYC members.

                     Have over 75 hours of service to the youth council. (GYC Records Director and GYC Director will verify)

The recipient of this award is Sarah Smith. Sarah just graduated from western Guilford high and chair of GYC for the 2014-15 year and has earned over 500 volunteer hours through the organization. She is also active in band, student government and Girl Scouts. She will attend UNC Chapel Hill this fall to study business. She has received the gold level Presidential Services award and was a Parks Scholar finalist.   

 

RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:  Recognition only
