PURPOSE: In November, 2014 the City of Greensboro approved funding in the amount of $250,000 to Guilford County for renovation costs for the Family Justice Center (FJC) to be located at 201 S. Greene Street. In consideration of the funding from the City of Greensboro, the City received space for use by the Greensboro Police Family Victims Unit. The Partnership Agreement sets forth the terms under which the City of Greensboro Police Department will provide services in support of the FJC partnership.

BACKGROUND: The FJC is a new public safety community initiative launched as a collaborative approach to fighting family violence. The FJC will provide a central location for victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, child maltreatment and elder abuse to receive necessary services from many area non-profits, private sector resources and law enforcement agencies. The FJC model is considered the best approach to responding to domestic violence and abuse by the United States Department of Justice. Due to the fact that family violence locally is high, the FJC is critical to ensuring the safety and wellbeing of children, families and vulnerable populations in the City of Greensboro and Guilford County.
