Since 1985 the National Recreation and Parks Association celebrated July as Parks and Recreation Month. Celebrated nationally for 30 years, our Parks and Recreation Department has been serving Greensboro for 82 years strong. During this time the department has continued to carry out its vision to be leaders in Greensboro with a foundation of four unwavering pillars: improving health and wellness, enhancing quality of life, conserving natural resources, and creating positive economic impacts. The department has been recognized nationally for best practice in terms of business operations and programming, as it is one, out of only eight departments in North Carolina to be accredited, coupled with their recent national ranking of one of the top 50 departments in the country. Our Parks and Recreation department continues to be an innovator in meeting community needs and outreach, and through the support of the community and dedicated professionals, they provide progressive leadership with their abilities in developing and sustaining strong and efficient partnerships with public and private organizations to meet the needs of residents.
