PURPOSE:
The bids for Contract 2015-01(Resurfacing of Streets) have been received. In order for the work to proceed on this contract, City Council approval is requested for award of the contract to Blythe Construction Inc. in the amount of $2,753,820.19.
BACKGROUND:
This work consists of all labor, equipment, and incidentals required for both demolition and resurfacing of various streets. The bids were opened on May 28, 2015 and the apparent lowest, responsible bidder is Blythe Construction, Inc. (Charlotte, NC) with a bid of $2,753,820.19.
The M/WBE utilization goals were MBE 3.0% and WBE 4.0%. The contractor's commitment is MBE 5.61% and WBE 6.74%.

The proposed date for start of construction is July 27, 2015. The proposed date of completion is December 14, 2015.
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funds for this construction contract are budgeted in the Transportation Department's Street Resurfacing account #471-4502-09.5611. A budget adjustment will be required to move funds from the 2008 bond fund holding account.
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
It is recommended by the Departments of Engineering & Inspections that City Council approve the bid and award Contract 2015-01 Resurfacing of Streets to Blythe Construction, Inc. for the bid amount of $2,753,820.19 and approve the related budget adjustment.
