PURPOSE: The Greensboro/Guilford County Tourism Development Authority (TDA) is proposing the allocation of $250,000 in Hotel/Motel tax funds to assist in the development of additional soccer fields at the Bryan Park Soccer Complex. If approved, funding will come from that portion of the Guilford County Hotel/Motel Tax that is restricted for City projects, the "City Capital" account, which may be used for convention and tourism capital improvements, including debt service costs incurred in financing capital improvements. Use of these funds requires approval by the TDA, the Greensboro City Council and the Guilford County Board of Commissioners.


BACKGROUND: Greensboro's Bryan Park Soccer Complex has been noted as a premier soccer facility and is widely recognized as one of the finest natural turf soccer centers in the U.S. However, improvements must be made for the facility to remain a premier facility by adding soccer fields along with additional parking and bathrooms as there are soccer events that Greensboro has hosted in the past that we are no longer eligible to host because the events have outgrown our facility. The project calls for five additional fields. The first phase will construct two fields and that is anticipated this year.
