PURPOSE:
To publish a notice of election for the November 3, 2015 election.

BACKGROUND:
Greensboro City Charter ?2.45 requires the City Council to give notice of elections. The regular biennial municipal election for Mayor and City Council will be held on Tuesday, November 3rd, 2015, and the primary election will be held on Tuesday, October, 2015.

The notice of elections will be published one time after June 6, 2015, but no later than June 22nd, 2015, as notice of the 2015 biennial municipal election, and a certified copy of this resolution will be filed with the Guilford County Board of Elections as notice to conduct said municipal election as required by law.

NCGS ?163-294.2 sets the requirements for notice of candidacy and filing fees. Candidates who are qualified pursuant to NCGS ?163.294.2(b) shall file notice of their candidacy with the Guilford County Board of Elections between 8 o'clock a.m. on July 6, 2015and 12 o'clock noon on July17 , 2015. Filing fees are fixed by the governing board, and each candidate for City Council shall pay a filing fee to the Guilford County Board of Elections of $ 25.00 and each candidate for Mayor shall pay to the Guilford County Board of Elections a filing fee of $75.00.

Voter registration for the municipal primary election closes at 5:00 p.m. September 11, 2015, and registration for the municipal general election closes at 5:00 p.m. October 9, 2015. Voters who fail to register to vote prior to the close of registration books for an election may register and vote during the "early voting" period.
