PURPOSE:
City Council approval is requested for a Utility Reimbursement Agreement with North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) to support construction activities related to relocating and abandoning existing water and sewer infrastructure in conflict with NCDOT Project I-5110, construction of a highway to connect HWY 68 to Bryan Boulevard.
 
BACKGROUND:
The North Carolina Department of Transportation (NCDOT) is constructing a roadway project that will run from the existing Joseph M. Bryan Boulevard/Airport Parkway interchange near Piedmont Triad International Airport to N.C. 68. The project will be signed I-73 when complete, and will include construction of a taxiway bridge at PTIA that crosses the future I-73. City Council approval of a Utility Agreement is requested to support construction activities related to relocating and abandoning existing water and sewer infrastructure in conflict with the project.
 
BUDGET IMPACT:
Funds are budgeted in Water Resources Capital Improvements Fund account 503-7024-01.5615 in the amount of $420,523.  A budget adjustment is needed to use this account.
 
RECOMMENDATION / ACTION REQUESTED:
The Water Resources Department recommends that City Council adopt a resolution authorizing the execution of the Utility Agreement between the North Carolina Department of Transportation and the City of Greensboro for the estimated cost of $420,523, and the associated budget adjustment.
