PURPOSE:
The Greensboro Police Department has received an additional allotment of $17,202 from the High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program for reimbursement of overtime worked during participation in their operations. A budget ordinance is requested from Greensboro City Council in accordance with current city fiscal policy.

BACKGROUND:
The High Intensity Drug Trafficking Areas (HIDTA) program, created by Congress with the Anti-Drug Abuse Act of 1988, provides assistance to Federal, state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies operating in areas determined to be critical drug-trafficking regions of the United States. The Guilford County Sheriff's Department (GCSD) was awarded a FY 2010 High Intensity Drug Trafficking Area (HIDTA) Grant. An on-going Interlocal agreement was signed by Guilford County and the City of Greensboro, allowing the City to receive reimbursement of overtime worked in conjunction with the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Guilford County HIDTA Task Force.

The funds provide reimbursement to Greensboro City Government for overtime worked by the assigned officers up to a maximum of $17,202.

BUDGET IMPACT:
On June 4, 2013, City Council approved the Interlocal Agreement with the Guilford County High Intensity Drug Trafficking program (HIDTA) with an initial allotment of $6,500 (Ord # 13-57). Additional funds of $17,202 have been allotted to the Greensboro Police Department via the HIDTA program. The funds will be housed in #220-3528-02.
